Plastic bags, foams and lids - do's and dont's

Plastic bags, bin liners, cling-wrap are classified as 'soft-plastics' and are NOT recyclable in recycling bins because they wrap around machinery at waste plant. Plastic bags can be recycled at specially labelled bins at your supermarkets

Polystyrene foam is not recyclable, because the plastic has been expanded from original form so please put it in your waste bin. This includes foam trays that meat is packaged on in supermarkets and also includes hot drink cups which are often labelled with a 6 but unforuntately cannot be recycled

Plastic lids are accepted at some recycling units, you will need to check with your council. If you're council accepts them remove lids and place in fabric softener or detergent bottle and once full place in recycling bin. This means that the machinery will easily be able to identify and sort with other mixed plastics
